Must say, it kept my attention. Just made me frustrated, and it truly disappointed in the end.

I sure agree about wanting movies to be entertaining. That's what stories are for, right? (Lord, here's another difficult one...I just finished Cormac McCarthy's The Road. Yikes.)Lois Karlinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00658333345815494310noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7818123252981343255.post-19363468940060888782007-06-21T11:31:00.000-04:002007-06-21T11:31:00.000-04:00I agree with you, Lois. A story isn't a story to me if it doesn't take a stand somewhere, either within a character or a point-of-view or around a set of events. To leave all of that tenuous and unclearly drawn is frustrating.

If I wanted an unelaborated Day In the Life as entertainment, I need only step outside to witness drama and trivia without context or emphasis. That's not storytelling, and while I will tolerate, even enjoy, a few areas of unanswered questions, the potential answers (alive or dead, dream or memory) still have to feel defined and meaningful. Otherwise, to me, it doesn't inspire me as being sophisticated so much as lazy, indecisive, or even cowardly.Clare2ehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06105229820107294986noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7818123252981343255.post-521441065897347052007-06-20T19:21:00.000-04:002007-06-20T19:21:00.000-04:00Lois,You are so amazing. I like it or I don't.

Apparently, when you watch a movie, you see the structure of the movie. and in this case you see what's missing.

Computers have pushed us to be much more interactive in our entertainment pursuits.

Perhaps forcing the movie watcher to think through what is or isn't happening and then deciding for himself what the story is has appeal for some people, but I want to be entertained. I want to have an "ah ha" moment now and again as I watch or read, but for the most part, I want to enjoy.

TerrieTerrie Farley Moranhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04980849018232866773noreply@blogger.com
