Very cool, Laura. Quick and easy to enter, but those first 150-200 words have to be boffo!
I wonder how the agents look at these introductory chunks these days, especially in one focused on romance. Lately, I'm losing my taste for needing much to happen that quickly, because of the increasingly typical opening hooks in the urban fantasy genre, for example. The need to establish ass-kicking cred gets so overdone that I don't believe or care. "His eyes were pretty. Too bad they were currently located across the room from his smile." That kind of thing. Fun, but thin, and I'm burning out after a chapter of it.
However, I still need to love the tone and craft, but I don't need to onramp the plot drama quite that quickly. Story whiplash.
I wonder what the judges think about that, and I forgot to check if they'll post the winners so I can find out!
