I am plumb worn out with Halloween. When did it take on such momentous proportions. I have been trick or treating twice with the main event on Saturday. Just as Christmas begins now, Halloween begins on Labor Day.
You're so right, Patti! I laughed when I was at the supermarket after the kids went back to school in September and the Halloween candy was out already!
My grandmother used to say, "they haven't even lit the pumpkin yet," when it came to the Christmas stuff rolling out so early.
It's all marketing!
The only thing I'm doing Oct. 31 is missing my high school reunion. Sigh. Too buried in work to travel so far. However, my daughter-in-law did convince me to carve a with pumpkin...I'm pretty proud of it.
Hi Lois,
I'm sorry you're so buried in work and missing out on your HS reunion. I attended my 30th in August, it was a ton of fun.
Glad you're daughter-in-law convinced you to carve a pumpkin!
great round-up of Halloween Happenings. Thanks for including the Halloween list. I alsoposted two different chocolate graveyard/tombstone recipes--one for cupcakes and another for Pots de creme on DyingforChocolate.com Just toadd to the fun.
I must admit that I actually like candy corn...but I love the Lewis Black bit. I hadn't heard it, so thanks for posting it!
Great links, Kathy!
I admit to Love-Love-Loving Halloween, and I guess for me it still hasn't hit any odious obligatory status. All fun stuff. Actually, I'm pretty holiday-happy in general, I'm afraid. I got a new tombstone for the yard this year. Now if it'll just stop raining long enough for me to put it out!
I always enjoy Halloween, too. I've even been decorating the house again, though my decorations are old school--paper ghosts and pumpkins for the window, no lights, no electric pumps needed. I do wish it wasn't the day before Nano, however. Do you think they'd consider moving it to, say, March? Halloween, that is. :)
I like when it's on a weekend so I can enjoy some of the great movie fare.
Janet - Thanks for stopping by. What great recipes on Dyingforchocolate.com!
Laura - I like it, too...Isn't Lewis Black hysterical? I love that he thinks all candy corn was made in 1911.
Clare - I enjoy Halloween, too...much more now since I retired. I hated it when I had to work a 4x12...I confiscated a lot of shaving cream, eggs, and toilet paper. I always prayed for rain (although I wish it would stop raining now!).
Elaine - I agree, for those preparing for NaNo, Halloween gets in the way! Glad to hear you've gotten into the festive spirit, even the old-fashioned way. Good luck with NaNo!
Charles - I'm with you, love a weekend Halloween - a great excuse for horror/thriller/suspense movie marathons (with lots of popcorn and Halloween candy, too, of course).
By the way, I just picked up Snow Leopard from my library...they had it on cassette, and I'm enjoying it now. Thanks for the suggestion!
Y'all rock! :)
I'm tweeting it!
