Tying all the strands together with this macabre playing card by a comic publisher? Priceless.
I know this might not be your cuppa Frappachailatte, but there are free comics being given out across the nation today in the thousands. There are usually tons of titles available, both new and established. And you don't even have to be deserving! Tell your immature (or graphic-appreciative) friends and kids you like today.
Here's the FCBD website with a store locator. I will be toodling out to The Phoenix in Scarsdale to see what choice morsels are available.
In other odd news, playing cards with the faces of missing and murdered New Yorkers are being distributed in jails as a new way to collect leads. Per Fark, "Oh yeah, I killed the 8 of clubs. You can stop searching now."

Clare,
You are the best!
As a grandma, I have been worrying about the lack of books for my grandson, the computer whiz. He's only five and has a real knack for computers. He is less and less interested in books. The girls will read (be read to)anything that has princesses or fairies in them but I have to scramble to get spiderman, or power rangers or iron man or any of those characters that he loves in book form. Comic Books!!! Hooray.
I put in my zip code and I apparently live in comic book central since there are three stores within three miles of my house. One north of me, one east of me, and one southeast.
As soon as I finish my latest project I am going to start learning about comics.
Thanks for this. Terrie
Great, Terrie! There'll be a huge selection of freebies from superhero types to fables to classics like Archie, so pick up a few and see what he gloms onto. Reports welcome!
I always feel like a bit of an odd duck with this stuff, but you made me feel positively useful : )
Have you seem the card game Gloom? For some reason, my brother gave it to me for xmas. I can't imagine why! (::facetious snort::)
Laura, Gloom looks very cool!
Double Hooray for me. Dashed on over to Superhero Comics on Jericho Turnpike in Floral Park, grabbed all the freebies and told the man what I needed. He came up with lots of stuff for my grandson and helped me pick out some for the girls as well. (I have to read the Betty and Veronica before passing it to my oldest grand daughter.) I am sure I will become a regular customer. Every other store I go to has so much stuff for the girls and not much for boys. The comic book stores are quite the opposite.
The store is affiliated with www.innervisioncomics.com
Clare, you are not an odd duck. You are an original classic, and we are so lucky to have you!
Terrie
Good Scores, Terrie!
Laura, I like the whole idea of Gloom! My Charles Addams aesthetic.
What a shame that doesn't happen here!!
We must make it transcontinental, Lyzzydee, obviously!

Oh, THAT's totally sick, and right up my twisted sense of humor.
