Are your fingers itching to write something, but you don’t know what? Are you good at whipping up short stories in less than two weeks? If your answer is yes to these questions, you’re in luck. The deadline for the 2008 Deadly Ink Short Story Contest has been extended to March 30.
According to the contest organizers, fewer stories than in previous years were submitted to the contest by the original deadline of March 15. Because of this, every story that’s entered has a better chance than usual of not only winning the contest, but making it into the 2008 Deadly Ink anthology. The anthology will be available for sale at the Deadly Ink Conference, June 20
through 22 in Parsippany, New Jersey, and at Barnes & Noble and Amazon.com.
All stories submitted to the contest must have no more than 3,500 words, be set in New Jersey, and include clues relating to a pen or ink, as well as a “deadly incident.” More than one story can be submitted, and the entry fee for each is $7, waived for people attending the conference. The prizes are:
First prize―$50 and Deadly Ink goodie bag
Second prize―$25 and Deadly Ink goodie bag
Third prize―$10 and Deadly Ink goodie bag

Hi Elaine,
Thanks so much for this reminder. I actually started a Jersey story when I was in Florida and thought I would send it ti Deadly Ink since I planned on attending the conference, then life got in the way when my daughter announced her need for a week long babysitter during the week that straddles Deadly Ink. In forgetting about the conference, I forgot about the story, which is buried in one of the folders of "travel papers" that go with me everywhere.
I did like the protag, the plot-line, and the geography, so I'll have to dig the story out again and finish it, not for Deadly Ink but for joy.

I actually just found a story that might come close to working, but I'm not sure the occurrence is deadly enough. Armed robbery? Potentially deadly, but no fatalities occur. Opinions, gals?
If I meet the rest of the criteria, does it seem close enough? I suppose $7 is a small risk to submit, but I will have to do some revision, and hate to take it on if I'm not even in the ballpark.
